One of the great summary promises in the NT can be found in 2 Thessalonians 3:3. In a context of instruction and directive, Paul interjects a summary statement of God’s character and provision:
3But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.
Notice the flow of this statement:
1) God’s character quality of faithfulness draws our response of faith
2) God’s provision of strength equips us to deal with our part in the “good fight,” though we won’t be spared the responsibility to engage
3) God’s protection addresses the enemy whose power and cunning far exceeds our limited resources.
